The productivity tip that nobody mentions

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: “different things work for different people” and one of the things, thanks to my awesome Godmother, that I have found works excellently for me, and so it seems, millions of others, is Mindfulness.

Simply put, this ancient Buddhist practice, is a method for learning to control one’s own focus of attention and increase awareness of what’s happening in the present moment, non-judgementally. The result is that your mind gradually starts to wander less and you have greater clarity and insight into how you’re feeling both physically and emotionally – it is eternally relevant to us all. It’s worth adding also that mindfulness does not conflict with any beliefs or tradition, religious, cultural or scientific.

The virtues of incorporating mindfulness into your daily lives are many, however, it’s the improved focus element that I wanted to explore in the context of business.

I read countless blogs about productivity these days, and it’s one of my favourite topics actually, but none of them seem to mention being mindful as a tool for increasing your efficiency – for me it’s one of my biggest secrets.

We’re all guilty of sitting at our desks from time to time with the best intentions of getting stuck into work….”…..but maybe after I’ve just addressed all these unread notifications on my social media, hmmm temperature’s not quite right in here, that reminds me I need to check our energy bills…” it can spiral!

We all have something that distracts us, whether it’s anxiety, children running around, stress from work, it could even be excitement/anticipation of something. It’s about acknowledging these stimuli and understanding what’s stealing your focus most in the present, so that you can come to terms with it momentarily and calmly and move on, as opposed to allowing it to control your mind throughout the day. In other words you have to be ‘mindful’ rather than have a ‘mind full’.

Since practicing mindfulness I am able to work with far more focus for longer periods of time and have discovered that I understand myself better which allows me to be in greater control of my thoughts and emotions generally. It might not work for everyone, but I would like to introduce this to all current and future employees of Quuu in the hope that it helps them equally in their personal lives as with their work!

In fact, we felt that given this applies to us all we wanted to add a new category to Quuu for our lovely users to share with their followers if they wish. So if you think that this might be of interest to your followers then why not add Mindfulness to your Quuu now?

If you have any experience of this then we’d love to hear from you in the comments, especially if you write on the subject, we’re now scouting for new Quuurators for this category!
